The Code: What is Was, and What it is Now, How I Know the Flames are Full of Fail

If you saw the highlights of the New York Rangers vs the Tampa Bay Lightning, you witnessed a nice goal, and an exuberant celebration by Artem Anisimov that got the Tampa Bay Lightning all riled up and had a little scuffle on the ice.

The first thing I thought when I saw this is, "How childish are the Lightning?".

Players are going to say it went against the code but I have to ask, what all is in the code now?

Back before Bettman, it seemed pretty simple, the only time players went after you is when you delivered a dirty hit or went after the star player of a team, then you met someone along the lines of Dave Semenko or Marty McSorley.

Now, it seems you do anything that the other team doesn't like, whether it be a hard hit or as last night a goal celebration, they go after you for anything that causes anything to cause a temper to flare.

Seriously, these guys up in arms over nothing now and it makes them seem real childish. However, that is what happens now since the instigator rule has come in and I guess that is how it is going to be.

If you happen to have caught the Flames vs Av's last night you may have heard that Flames centre, Brendan Morrison drew up some plays for their PP, which at that point was 0 for 4 on the night and then goes out onto their PP and gets two assists which has given him 6 points in the last two games, before which he was a healthy scratch for five games. Yes you read that last sentence right, probably the best playmaker the Flames has was a healthy scratch.

The Flames have convinced me that they can't tell which way is up. The management and coaching squad have got no clue how to run a team in the new NHL. This team has made continually questionable moves and they haven't figured out how to do stuff in the new NHL, they need to clean house from top to bottom and do a proper rebuild it is the only way they will get out of this.

That is the way I see it, until next time, keep your stick on the ice.
